More Information
From the mountains to the ocean, from the freeways to the trails, California is rich in geographical diversity and natural beauty. The recently updated and improved second edition of the California Road & Recreation Atlas captures the full scope of this magnificent state.
The heart of the atlas is Benchmark's exclusive Landscape Maps - a unique illustrative cartographic style that, through the use of color and shaded relief, accurately depicts the physical landscape. These maps clearly show recreation information and road classes, from freeways to jeep trails, for the entire state at a scale of 1" = 5 miles (1:300,000).
The California Road & Recreation Atlas also has 14 pages of newly styled "Metro Maps" of the four largest urban areas of the state: Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento. The enlarged scale (1" = 2.5 miles or 1:157,000) shows even more recreation detail than before. New features of the twenty-eight page Recreation Guide now include climate graphs, eight-classes of public lands ownership, shaded relief and point-to-point mileages. Campgrounds and RV Parks are now grouped, by region, in an easy-to-use central index.
Accuracy is paramount with all Benchmark atlases. The only sure way of getting it right is field-checking...verifying road and recreation information in person. Benchmark actively field-checked the California atlas, driving over 40,000 miles, accurately gathering road and recreation data from a variety of sources. The third edition is completely updated for 2002.
Make the Benchmark California Road & Recreation Atlas a part of your next adventure in the Golden State.
